ADF Summer Online 2020

As we’ve seen these past few months, dancers never stop dancing, no matter what the conditions, and neither will we! This summer, we want to help you build strength, resilience, adaptability, hybridity, and a chance to experience community. Join us in one of our online training courses to continue reimagining dance’s potential and your capacity for powerful, joyous movement.

Summer Dance Intensive (SDI): June 15 – July 3, 2020

Join us for three weeks of movement-intensive online courses that envision new ways to respond to current times by reimagining how we move between making, dancing, researching, and performing. Offerings include three-week-long courses as well as weekend discussions and drop-in classes.

Pre-Professional Dance Intensive (PDI): June 22 – July 3, 2020

Join us for two weeks of online courses in technique and composition that will build your strength, stamina, and creativity, while also offering you inspiring faculty and a community of passionate dancers from all over the world. Come together with your fellow dancers each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to sweat, move, create, and feel your fullest!

dance professional workshops (DPW):

For Makers | Jesse Zaritt: June 22 – June 26, 2020

Insistence/Persistence
This experimental workshop insists on the incessant. Organized as a series of durational practice loops of dancing and drawing, Insistence/Persistence invites participants to create materials and exchange practices for immediate use. Focusing on unsolicited performance and the limits of the solo, sessions will explore encounters with family, neighbors, animals, objects and environments. Spectacularly fleeting events, or micro-theaters, will be designed and inhabited.

The moving aspect of the class can be done by anyone with an adventurous and open-minded attitude toward physicality. The organization of the class will be 1 hour 30 minutes of lab time followed by 30 minutes of discussion.

For Educators | Gerri Houlihan: June 29 – July 3, 2020

If you are hoping to rejuvenate your practice and find a supportive community of fellow educators, come join us for five days of joyful moving and meaningful dialog. Led by the incomparable Gerri Houlihan, each day will feature a class that includes time to dance together and participant-driven discussions focused on topics you care about most right now. Classes will also have live musical accompaniment to keep us present and rhythmically connected across the distance!
