For nearly 60 years the unrivaled genius of Paul Taylor has delighted audiences and established him as one of the greatest cultural icons in dance history. The beauty and skillful mastery of his choreography is quickly recognized the world over, and his poignant, powerful, and breathtaking explorations into life’s most complex issues continue to move audiences of all ages. Audiences will be treated to a program comprised of some of Taylor’s most passionate works, including his 1981 masterpiece, Arden Court. Described as “One of the few great art works in [the 20th] century…” by The New York Post, this extraordinary display of love and relationships touches the hearts of every audience that lays eyes on it. Eventide, a dance that has not been seen at the ADF since its world premiere in 1997, is a romantic, yet bittersweet, observation of a couple’s love as they look both at their past and toward their future. The company will also present Taylor’s newest work, Perpetual Dawn, which had its premiere in New York City just a few short weeks ago and was greeted with instant celebration.

About Paul Taylor

As the last living member of the pantheon that created America’s indigenous art of modern dance, Paul Taylor continues to offer cogent observations on life’s complexities while tackling some of society’s thorniest issues. He first presented his choreography with five other dancers in Manhattan on May 30, 1954. That modest performance marked the beginning of a half-century of unrivaled creativity. In the five decades that have followed, he has become a cultural icon hailed for his choreographic genius. Taylor has received nearly every important honor given to artists in the US including the 1992 Kennedy Center Honors, an Emmy Award, a National Medal of Arts, the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement, the New York State Governor’s Arts Award and the New York City Mayor’s Award of Honor for Art and Culture, among many others.
