You will be working backstage with world-renowned modern dance companies, choreographers, and their technical crews. You will also be working along side ADF’s, Duke University’s, and DPAC’s professional production staff.
The dates of the production internship
are June 7 – August 1, 2012
The ADF is held in Durham, North Carolina. The studios and administrative offices are spread across Duke University’s East Campus. Performances by visiting dance companies occur in Reynolds Industries Theater on Duke University’s West Campus and the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) in downtown Durham. Production internships will be in Reynolds and DPAC.
ADF’s Production Manager, David Ferri directs the production internship program.
“Being a production intern at the ADF has been the most valuable and challenging experience I have had. It taught me so much about what needs to happen to produce a show of any size in a short time frame. Interns get the chance to work with different aspects of producing a show with professionals in each field and even get the opportunity to take a dance class each morning. Working with a number of the best dance companies from all over the world was a true privilege and I often reflect on the wonderful memories that were made there!” – Katie Houff (ADF Production Intern)
Benefits of being a Production Intern:
- Tickets: A complimentary ticket to each program in the ADF season, which features over 35 performances by the top dance companies from around the world.
- Classes: All interns may take one class through the ADF Six Week School, which includes more than 40 classes a day (must have approval from David Ferri).
- Academic Credit: Please contact your university’s career center for this information. ADF will fill out any necessary forms for the completion of credit.
- Stipend: Each production intern receives a $1,100 stipend.
Housing: Interns are responsible for their own transportation, food and housing. Apartments and shares (mostly sublets) are available in the local area. More information about housing will be provided upon acceptance to the program.
