This workshop invites you to experience Pilobolus’ collaborative creative process and shadow-making techniques. The class is playful, group-driven, physically challenging, and fun. Pilobolus fans and curious minds from all walks of life will learn to access untapped areas of creativity and improve effectiveness in a group. Go “behind the screen” and work with others to create incredible composite shapes and shadow magic.

This class is perfect for all adults with any level of movement background!

Gaspard Louis is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Durham-based modern dance company Gaspard&Dancers (G&D). He received a BFA in Dance from Montclair State University and continued his dance studies on scholarship at Gus Giordano’s in Chicago and Nikolais/Louis Dance Lab in New York. Following his studies, he joined the New York-based company called AllNations where he performed traditional dances from many parts of the world for US troupes across the globe. Subsequently, he performed and traveled worldwide with Pilobolus Dance Theater. He collaborated on the choreography of nine major dance works with the company and taught master dance classes both nationally and internationally.

In 2012, Gaspard received an MFA in Dance from the Hollins University/American Dance Festival Program and became the Director of ADF’s year-round creative movement outreach program which provides free dance classes to youth in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill community of North Carolina. His passion for dance has continued to lead him to work with local dancers and musicians. Additionally, Gaspard has been a guest teacher at Duke, Elon and North Carolina Central Universities.

Heather Jeane Favretto is a performer, teaching artist, and choreographer hailing from New Jersey. She has spent the majority of the past eleven years touring the world performing with and teaching for Pilobolus Dance Theatre. Notable collaborations include: In The Dark with Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, and Demetri Martin, Shadowland with David Poe and Steven Banks (creator of SpongeBob Squarepants), The Art of Fugue with the Brentano String Quartet and architect Gabriel Calatrava, Echo in The Valley with Grammy award-winning banjo superstars Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, and The World Science Festival with theoretical physicist Brian Greene.. just to name a few!

She counts herself very lucky for being given opportunities to perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and on the Today Show with Kathy Lee and Hoda, as well as several other TV spots all over the planet! However, Heather feels she has truly found her calling in bringing integrated movement practices to a range of diverse communities. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Rutgers University where she now serves on faculty.
