Application Checklist & how to apply

  1. Fill out an online application form.
  2. Submit a $40 non-refundable application fee (not credited toward tuition).

  3. Submit a résumé of your dance training, education, and professional experience, via mail or email:


The ADF does not require an audition to enroll in the DPW. 

ADF is not responsible for mail/email that is delayed or lost in transit. Applicants are strongly encouraged to call the ADF office to verify receipt of application materials at least 2 weeks prior to deadlines. Photos of documents will not be accepted.

Scholarships

Tuition scholarships

A limited number of tuition scholarships will be available for participants in the Dance Professional Workshops. Scholarship students will still be responsible for travel, room and board costs.

HOW TO APPLY
To apply, please submit the following with your DPW application:


  1. A one-page statement explaining how this experience would be of professional benefit to you. 
  2. A copy of your 2016 Tax Form 1040 (first page only).  
  3. Ensure that a resume is submitted as part of the DPW application.

HOW TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTS

Students may submit scholarship documents by mail or email. Include your full name, name of scholarship, and the summer program you are applying for on all scholarship documents. Photos of documents will not be accepted.

Matching scholarships

The ADF will match up to $250 (DPW Workshop for Educators) and $150 (other DPW Workshops) from sponsoring organizations and businesses. Sponsorships may come from:

  • Dance Studio
  • College or University
  • High School
  • Arts Organization
  • Business or Corporation

Details

  • Matching scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Only a limited number are available. 
  • Matching scholarships cannot be combined with any other ADF scholarships. 
  • Matching Scholarships may only be used to towards ADF tuition fees. 
  • Matching scholarship awards are contingent upon sponsorship agreement. Matching scholarships from ADF will not be allocated until the school office receives sponsorship agreement and funds. Students are strongly encouraged to reach out to their possible sponsors EARLY, before indicating interest in the matching scholarship to ADF.

Payment Instructions

  • ADF accepts the following forms of payment:
    • All major credit/debit cards
    • Personal checks
    • Bank check, certified check, or cashier check
    • Money order
  • Checks should be made out to “ADF” or “American Dance Festival” and mailed to ADF School, Box 90772, Durham, NC 27708
  • Upon acceptance to the ADF, students will be mailed a statement of charges along with an information packet.

  • Within 21 days of this acceptance, a non-refundable $300 tuition deposit is due (part of the overall tuition cost).
  • All student accounts must be paid in full by the deadline. Payments must be received or postmarked by this date. 
  • Payment after the deadline requires special arrangements with the ADF School office.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY PAYMENTS MADE IN PERSON, OVER THE PHONE, OR BY CHECK MAY NOT APPEAR IN YOUR ADF ONLINE ACCOUNT. SCHOLARSHIPS MAY ALSO NOT SHOW UP IN ALL ONLINE ACCOUNTS. PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL THE ADF OFFICE FOR UPDATED ACCOUNT INFORMATION BEFORE MAKING A PAYMENT. 

REFUND POLICY

Withdrawal


  • Summer 2017:
    • May 15, 2017: All paid tuition (less the $300 deposit) and dorm room fees will be refunded in full only if written notice of withdrawal is received on or before this date.
    • May 16–respective week begins: tuition (less the $300 deposit) will be refunded for medical reasons only. A signed note from a doctor is required. Dorm room fees will be refunded in full.After program begins: tuition will not be refunded for any reason. Prorated dorm room fees will be refunded by December 2017 if a student leaves the festival early, based on the date that a student’s room key is returned.
    • All withdrawals will incur a $40 withdraw fee.

Refund Issue Dates

  • Summer 2017: ADF refunds will be issued no earlier than July 15, 2017. Duke refunds for dorm damage and key deposits will be refunded by December 2017, after the ADF receives final billing from Duke University.

 Single A/C Dorm   $410   
 Double A/C Dorm   $320   
 Dorm Key Deposit   $125   required if living in the dorms
 Dining Points  $100 per week (minimum)  required if living in the dorms
 Linen Rental   $50   
 Parking  $3 per day   payable upon arrival at ADF 
 Wire Transfer Fee   $50   for students who require bank to bank wire transfer 
 Withdrawal Fee   $40   
 Visa Fee  $125  
 Returned Check Fee  $30  

The application fee and tuition are the only required fees. All other fees listed above are optional. Certain fees will be required depending on the student’s housing and personal preferences.      

Please note:

  •  Dorms cannot be guaranteed unless paid by May 1, 2017
  • All housing and meal plan prices are approximate and subject to minor revision, pending notice from Duke University.
