ADF Docent Tours

ADF tours offer individuals, families, and community groups a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of the ADF to witness modern dance in the making. Weekly tours begin with a short video about the ADF, followed by a walking tour of ADF School classes. Visitors of all ages can catch a glimpse of our world-renowned faculty and students hard at work.

The ADF Three Week School

The ADF Three Week School is a program designed specifically for the training and education of dancers from the ages of 12-16. The faculty have a committed interest in working with this particular age group and are experienced and dedicated artists in the field. The focus of the program is to provide excellent training in a supportive and nurturing environment, while introducing younger dancers to the range and diversity of the dance profession today. Three Week School Directors Pam Pietro and Ursula Payne spoke with us about the program.

Celebrating their 25th anniversary this summer, Doug Varone and Dancers command attention with their kinetically thrilling dances that unearth the complexities of the human spirit. The evening length work from 2011, “Chapters from a Broken Novel” consists of 22 vignettes inspired by Artistic Director Doug Varone’s collection of phrases, photos, quotes, and overheard conversations. Propelled by a bold cinematic score, Varone’s “Chapters” is ever-present with purity, spirit, and beauty as it reveals a world teeming with everyday moments exposed for their beauty and rawness.

The 2011 International Choreographers Residency

Meet Elena Slobodchikova from Russia and Wagner Moreira from Germany/Brazil. They are attending the ADF this summer as part of the International Choreographer’s Residency (ICR). The choreographers shared their excitement about their development and let us join them during technique class and rehearsal for the upcoming ICR showing on July 13 at 7pm in Baldwin Auditorium.
