Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company to Perform at ADF, June 16-18

Multi-talented choreographer, dancer, theater director, and writer Bill T. Jones will once again inspire ADF audiences with his company’s athleticism, grace, and beauty. The program will feature the reconstruction, with support provided by the ADF, of his masterpeice D-Man in the Waters (1989), a living memory of Jones’ firsthand experience with death, and the resiliency of the human spirit. The company will also perform Spent Days Out Yonder, an excerpt from Jones’ work You Walk? (2000), which explores Latin cultural influence on America. The Durham Symphony will provide live musical accompaniment for both works.

The ADF reconstruction of D-Man in the Waters is supported by the SHS Foundation and The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation.

ADF Dance Parties at Casbah

ADF and Durham’s Casbah are excited to offer people of all ages the opportunity to rock their socks off every Tuesday and Saturday following the evening’s ADF performance at DPAC or Reynold Theater. The goal: to keep the party going and experience the night life of Durham! Practice your knew-found knowledge of Gaga to Lady Gaga or drop your bows to the hot jams of Black Eyed Peas. All are welcome at the Casbah located at 1007 West Main Street in Durham.

A History of the Scripps/ADF Award

Samuel H. Scripps, long time friend and contributer to the ADF, made the Samuel H. Scripps/ADF Award for Lifetime Achievement possible through his generous contributions. This annual award honors choreographers who have made a significant lifetime contribution to the field of modern dance. Prior to the Rosas performance on Saturday, June 11, Anne Theresa De Keersmaker will be presented with the 2011 Scripps Award for her numerous choreographic contributions and profoundly influential presence in modern dance.

Rosas to Perform at ADF, June 10-12

Heralded as one of the most profoundly influential European choreographers working today, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and her dance troupe, Rosas, will make their ADF debut this summer with their acclaimed 1983 classic Rosas danst Rosas. Performed to a score created simultaneously with the movement, five physically intense “chapters” will unravel the relationship between music and choreography and explore the complex interactions between uniformity and individuality.
