Interview with Jun Kuribayashi and Nile Russell of Pilobolus

The ADF Video Blog talked with Jun Kuribayashi and Nile Russell of Pilobolus about the world premiere of the ADF commission “Korokoro,” a collaboration with Japanese Butoh artist, Takuya Muramatsu. The program features two additional world premieres of ADF comissions, “Seraph” and “All is Not Lost,” as well as the classic Pilobolus work “Unititled.” Pilobolus will perform at the Durham Center for Performing Arts, June 30 – July 2 at 8pm, with a Children’s Matinee on June 2 at 1pm.

The ADF School’s WFSS Classes

The ADF Six Week School is supplemented by WFSS (pronounced “woofs”) classes that are designed to inform and enhance students’ regular schedule. They allow students the opportunity to explore individualized interests, cross train in various body therapies and somatic work, or participate in special projects. The WFSS schedule also includes open showings, video screenings, panels, and discussions. WFSS classes meet on Wednesdays, Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, and are offered on a regular as well as a drop-in basis. Audrey Lowry, the WFSS Program Director, speaks about the WFSS Program.

Pilobolus to Perform at ADF, June 30-July 2

Known for its imaginative and athletic exploration of creative collaboration, Pilobolus will celebrate its 40th anniversary with three world premieres and one of their classic works. They will present the reconstruction, with support from the ADF, of Untitled (1975),which examines the profound relationship between men and women, and an ADF commissioned world premiere, Korokoro, in collaboration with Japanese Butoh artist, Takuya Muramatsu. Seraph, created in collaboration with the engineers, programmers, and pilots of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) under the direction of Daniela Rus, investigates the relationship between human and machine. The third is a collaboration between Pilobolus, the Grammy-winning band OK Go, and Trish Sie.

The ADF reconstruction of Untitled is supported by the American Express Charitable Fund. New Work is commissioned by the ADF with support from the SHS Foundation and Japan Foundation, New York.

Interview with Rosie Herrera

Rosie Herrera speaks about Dining Alone, an ADF commissioned world premiere that will be performed at Reynolds Theater June 27-29 at 8pm. Also on the program is a new version of her 2010 smash hit Pity Party. This is Rosie’s third year back to the ADF and the young folks just can’t seem to get enough of her! Find out why Dance Magazine named her one of the “top emerging choreographers of 2010.”

The Choreography of Paul Taylor: “Company B”

ADF Community Day 2011

After the EVIDENCE and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company Children’s Matinee on June 25th, the ADF Video Blog joined in on an afternoon of fun at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University! There was an African dance and drum workshop, a chance to chill with puppets from Paperhand Puppet Intervention, pictures taken with the one and only Wool E. Bull, super fun crafts with the Scrap Exchange, and much, much more!

Rosie Herrera to Perform at ADF, June 27-29

After receiving rave reviews nationwide, the unstoppable Rosie Herrera returns to the ADF to remind Durham why she was named the “Top Choreographer of 2010″ (Miami Herald). She will present “Dining Alone,” an ADF commissioned world premiere that incorporates the humor, wit, and powerful sincerity that have come to be expected in her work. Also on the program is an exciting new version of her brilliantly introspective 2010 hit “Pity Party,” originally commissioned by and premiered at the ADF.

Dining Alone is commissioned by the ADF with support from the SHS Foundation and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.
