Shani Collins-Achille attributes the development of her dance career to the many connections she’s made at ADF. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, she first attended ADF as a twelve-year-old. That first summer, she grabbed the attention of faculty member Ronald K. Brown. “Watching her solos, immediately I pegged her ‘choreographer,’” remembers Mr. Brown. After receiving her BA in Dance at Hollins University, she joined Ronald K. Brown/Evidence and performed with his company for many years. She also danced and choreographed for Urban Bush Women, was a guest artist with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and is a recipient of a Martha Myers Choreography Award and a Bessie Award.
A graduate of the Hollins University/American Dance Festival MFA program, Ms. Collins-Achille is now an Assistant Professor of Dance at Connecticut College and Artistic Director of Eternal Works Inc., a dance company devoted to exploring women’s healing through movement. She has been a dedicated member of the ADF faculty since 2006.
