Belgian choreographer, director, and filmmaker Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker received the 2011 Samuel H. Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement. Renowned for her unique movement vocabulary and her intricate examinations of form and structure, Ms. De Keersmaeker founded her company Rosas—named after her groundbreaking work Rosas danst Rosas—in 1983 after graduating from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In 1995, she established the Performing Arts Research and Training School (P.A.R.T.S.) in Brussels.
Elizabeth Corbett, longtime dancer and educator at P.A.R.T.S. and current ADF faculty member, and Stuart Hodes, Ms. De Keersmaeker’s former New York University dance professor, discuss her process of creating work and the impact she continues to make on the modern dance world in Europe and beyond.
