Jennifer Tipton is an award-winning lighting designer whose work has touched ADF in myriad ways. As a young fifteen-year-old from Knoxville, Tennessee, she ventured to the northeast for the first time to attend ADF at Connecticut College and traveled–solo–to New York City for the first time the following winter to attend Martha Graham’s Christmas Course.

Having studied and worked under famed lighting designer Thomas Skelton, Ms. Tipton eventually shifted her focus from dancing to lighting, and thus began a storied career as one of the most sought-after lighting designers for the stage. She has designed lighting for such perennial ADF favorites as Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Shen Wei, and others, and continues to return to ADF when lighting their respective premieres.
