Bill T. Jones

When choreographer, dancer, and artistic director Bill T. Jones arrived at ADF in 1981 as part of the Emerging Generations Program, it was not, in fact, his first visit. Mr. Jones states, “Years earlier, I attended the festival before its move to Durham. I saw an amazing performance of Daniel Nagrin’s Peloponnesian Wars, and I read stories of Martha Graham and those luminaries walking the campus in New London. It felt like some rarified air I would never be able to partake in.”

Since these early beginnings, Mr. Jones has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning decades. His many visits with his Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company to ADF included seven premieres, five of which were ADF commissions, and the receipt of the Samuel H. Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2005.

This season, Mr. Jones’ work Love Re-Defined (1996) will be staged on ADF students as part of our Forces of Dance program, July 26th and 27th at the Durham Performing Arts Center. For more information and to purchase tickets, please click here.
