Shen Wei Dance Arts presents Undivided Divided in an exciting collaboration between the American Dance Festival and the North Carolina Museum of Art. In this multi-dimensional gallery show, audience members are encouraged to ambulate around and through the dancers as they move on seven-foot-square platforms throughout the museum.
Shen Wei dancer Sarah Chiesa spoke with the ADF Blog to discuss this latest work and the ways in which the audience interaction differs in these types of site-specific projects. Rather than simply observing the performance on a stage, audience members become more direct participants in the project itself, weaving in and around each platform across the space of the museum. This creates a unique experience for each viewer, and a fascinating way to encounter movement.
The co-presentation of Undivided Divided is made possible with support from Joan H. Gillings, The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, and The Asian/Pacific Studies Institute at Duke University. The show closes with two exhilarating performances this evening, Thursday, July 19th, so don’t miss your chance to catch this perennial festival favorite.
