Opening Weekend Recap

Posted in Festival '12, 2012.

What a weekend! We here at ADF Video Blog HQ are still reeling from our action-packed opening festivities over the last few days. Things were off to a great start with the jubilant return of Doug Elkins & Friends’ Fräulein Maria on Thursday evening, followed by drinks, dining and dancing at the Opening Night Fête at Parizäde, courtesy of our friends at Giorgio’s Hospitality Group. One particular highlight was boogying down to the Wobble with the Doug Elkins dancers and a few loyal ADF supporters.   The Stephen Petronio Company kicked off the first ADF weekend with their visceral performance of UNDERLAND, while the ADF School students bustled in and out of classes and auditions, setting the stage for their ADF summer experience. Favorite overheard quote: “Get ready to do the Detroit Hustle,” warned one dancer to another between auditions. The response? “But I’m from California!”   This week promises to continue the excitement, with Footprints cast list postings and registration over in the ADF School, and the arrival of Doug Elkins + Friends and Scottish Dance Theatre — the former performing their ADF-commissioned Contact Sport among others, and the latter marking their full company US debut. We can’t wait to bring you video clips of all the festival happenings this week, including a feature on our new ADF Director Jodee Nimerichter! Check this space again soon to keep up with all the newest festival happenings.
