Larry Keigwin, Artistic Director of Keigwin + Company, is back at ADF and fired up for some amazing shows and special ADF school workshops and classes! Fresh off a week of performances at The Joyce Theater in New York—and heading straight to the Green Box Arts Festival in Colorado on Friday, which he also just happened to co-found—Larry Keigwin and his dancers have made it to Durham to present their ADF-commissioned Contact Sport, among others.
Mr. Keigwin has dipped his toes into musical theater, cabaret, and even fashion, having staged the Vogue-sponsored opening event for New York Fashion Week in 2010. Having such a broad base of movement styles and platforms from which to draw creates an exciting intermingling of art and entertainment with his K + C dancers onstage. “I definitely think you can be artistically expressive and entertaining,” he remarks. “The two aren’t mutually exclusive. We are a live art form with a paying public, and it’s important to entertain them. We entertain with our artistry.”
And as part of this credo, audience engagement is tantamount. “We really appreciate an audience that hoots and hollers and is vocally engaged. “
