Dance Professionals Workshop

Dance Professionals

Every year, working dancers from across the field are invited to spend a week at the ADF as part of the Dance Professionals Workshop which offers the flexible structure needed by them to pursue a week of study specifically tailored to their own artistic needs. In 2009, 12 dance professionals immersed themselves in the Festival, attending performances, taking studio classes, observing workshops, and meeting informally with ADF faculty and special guests.

Critics

Hosted by the ADF with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the NEA Arts Journalism Institute for Dance Criticism is designed for professional journalists interested in refining their skills in writing about dance and analyzing choreography. Twelve participants from across the United States attended the 2009 Institute, directed by ADF Critic-in-Residence Suzanne Carbonneau. The program offered immersion in one of the world’s premiere modern dance festivals: three intensive weeks of seminars with dance world luminaries, as well as performances, movement classes, and full access to the Festival’s resources. Guest speakers, including Tedd Bale, Dave Covey, Robert Greskovic, Deborah Jowitt, Claudia La Rocco, Marijeanne Liederbach, Douglas McLennan, Roslyn Sulcas, and Ohad Naharin, among others, shared unique insights into the world of dance criticism with institute participants.
